National Institute of Design

National Institute of Design, which is also known as NID is the first institute founded in 1961 in Ahmedabad. There are a total of five NIDs that exist. NID operates independently under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India. National Institute of Design Deadline 2025:

  • Course Duration- 4 years (8 semesters)

• M.Des (Master of Design) at NID Ahmedabad:

  • Total Tuition Fee: INR 11 lakhs (approx.)

NID Ahmedabad Admission Requirements:

To get into NID-Ahmedabad, Students need to meet some special entry requirements based on the programme. It includes education qualifications, age limit and Design Aptitude test (DAT).

• B.Des (Bachelor of Design):

  • Educational Qualification: Candidate must have passed the 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities).

• M.Des (Master of Design):

  • Educational Qualification: Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university

  • Age Limit: Students must be born on or after July 1st of the relevant year 

  • Relaxation: Candidates from reserved categories can get a 3-year relaxation. 

  • PwD: Candidates from the public works department can get a 5-year relaxation. 

• PhD:

  • Educational Qualification: Students must have a Master's degree in Design. 

  • Selection Criteria: Students must attend a proposal screening, Design Research Test (DRT), and an interview.
